Groundbreaking Day: Students, parents and teachers showed up on Saturday to break ground on a new library in Machakos County, Kenya. Funded by Godfrey foundation, the library will provide the students with a safe quiet place to learn.
The larger community will benefit from increased access to county extension services from the Ministries of Water, Agriculture, Health, Education and more.
The red basalt rock soil is a distinctive feature of the local landscape. While some parts are rich enough for farming, soil erosion combined with low rainfall has led to poor crop and animal production in many areas. Education offers a direct route out of poverty for many families.
