In rural areas, our scholars come from large families. If a grandmother can only afford a pencil, the oldest child receives that pencil and that child becomes a steward of the pencil for the rest of the family members. After all the pencil is wealth and costs more than 25% of a family’s daily income.
Our scholars need basic school supplies. They are very grateful when they do receive. ‘We do express gratitude for the supplies of books and food to our children.’- A Principal from Kenya wrote last year.
Students who lack a pen or pencil stay home until one is purchased for them missing many learning days and remaining behind academically. A school bag is a luxury. Having exercise books for all subjects is unheard off. Your generosity will put books, pens, pencils, and even a bag of food on a child’s lap.
